GIS Analyst

A part of the NOAA National Ocean Service and the Coastal Services Center, the Center’s mission is to support the environmental, social, and economic well being of the coast by linking people, information, and technology. The Center (http://www.csc.noaa.gov/psc) works with various branches of NOAA and other federal agencies to bring information, services, and technology to the nation's coastal resource managers.

Duties

• Assist with Data management: Load data into ESRI’s Spatial Data Engine (SDE) or other data storage systems and assure quality FGDC metadata compliance

• Technical assistance: ArcGIS workflow, mapping, geospatial

decision support tools

• Training support: GPS, GIS, and geospatial decision support tools

• Digital image processing: rectification, classification

• Responding to data requests

• Working within a team conducting geospatial analysis

Qualifications

• Experience using ESRI ArcGIS software and extensions for spatial data development, analysis and/or metadata documentation is required

• Experience in any of the following areas highly desirable: o Multiuser Geodatabase

o Authoring and Publishing Optimized Map Services

o Publishing Map Services with ArcGIS Server 9.3

o Editing in ArcGIS

o Building Geodatabase Data Models

o SQL Server Queries

• Experience processing digital imagery in ERDAS p

• Experience and skill in cartography is highly desirable

• Organization and attention to detail

• Excellent written and oral communication skills

Computer Programmer

The successful candidate will support development of interactive scientific visualizations and applied uses of geographic information systems (GIS) data and tools. A part of the NOAA National Ocean Service and the Coastal Services Center, PSC’s mission is to support the environmental, social, and economic well being of the coast by linking people, information, and technology. Description

Work to design and develop user interactive educational pieces utilizing scientific visualizations, live data and static animations to support NOAA’s educations goals. Primary duties will include working with the data visualization team to storyboard, design, and program interactive elements for use in formal and informal education curriculums, web sites, and spherical displays. Products include interactive kiosks for the Magic Planet and "Science on a Sphere" spherical visualization platforms, interactive data visualizations for inclusion on NOAA web sites, and mobile applications.

• Work with Data Visualization team to develop multimedia and web-based interactive data visualizations utilizing live NOAA satellite and buoy data

• Assist in development of interactive kiosks for Magic Planet and Science on a Sphere visualization platforms

• Assist in the development of interactive visual elements to support NOAA’s education goals

• Develop web-based multimedia products and decision support tools for the Pacific region that support environmental literacy, community resilience, and marine spatial planning

Qualifications

• Experience in object oriented programming and scripting languages (Java, ActionScript)

• Experience in the Adobe Creative Suite development environment including Flash Builder (Flex)

• Experience with geographic information systems and/or mobile applications a plus

GIS Data Visualization Specialist

Honolulu, Hawaii

(TBG) (www.tbgroupconsultants.com) seeks a talented individual with experience in geographic information systems (GIS) and scientific visualization to support the NOAA Pacific Services Center in Honolulu, Hawaii. The successful candidate will work to design and develop interactive scientific visualizations in support of NOAA education goals, including scientific animations and multimedia products for distribution as interactive educational elements in formal and informal education venues. A part of the NOAA National Ocean Service and the Coastal Services Center, the Center’s mission is to support the environmental, social, and economic well being of the coast by linking people, information, and technology. Duties

• Acquire and analyze NOAA scientific and satellite data for use in data visualization product development

• Design and develop image and animation sequences for spherical visualization (SoS, Magic Planet, Google Earth), multimedia and web platforms

• Work with team to design and create interactive graphical user interfaces to support Spherical Visualization platforms (SoS / Magic Planet / Google Earth)

• Assist in the development of visualization for multimedia image and video products.

• Assist in the development of interactive educational visualization products to support NOAA formal curriculum objectives.

Qualifications:

• Experience with GIS / remote sensing software and data.

• Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (PhotoShop, After Effects, Flash).

• Experience with 3D software (Maya, Blender) a plus.

• Ability to communicate effectively and work independently.
