Values are behaviors that are important to us. That
is to say, values constitute a list of nouns
identifying those things and behaviors that are
obviously important to us. They almost always
dictate how we act in all that we do. A
representative list might include:
|
Spouse
|
Education
|
Humility
|
|
Children
|
Experience
|
Honesty
|
|
Family
|
Trust
|
Patriotism
|
Principles are
statements of belief that articulate a value. A
personal principle might take the nouns Family
and Education from the list above and
articulate them as the following personal
principles:
- I recognize the
requirements of my Family over all other
requirements.
- My company
believes in the power of a quality Education.
Operating principles,
statements of belief, and corporate philosophy are
in most cases used synonymously. They all refer to
unwritten guidelines used within an organization.
Operating principles are the "rules and regulations
written from the heart, not in rules and regulations
or policies and procedures manuals."
